  • WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermaker duo of Romain Maire and David Colturi head west this week to Federal Way, Wash., and the King County Aquatic Center for the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships.

Maire, a senior from Dijon, France, is making his fourth-consecutive appearance at nationals but he's yet to earn the title of All-America. He posted his fastest NCAA times at last year's meet, but his mark of 1:44.37 in the 200-yard backstroke netted him 22nd place and his 3:50.45 in the 400 individual medley was only good for 21st.

Maire also recorded a 1:47.54 in the 200 IM, which placed him 28th.

Maire has enjoyed a productive senior campaign, which includes three championship final swims at Big Ten's. Maire placed sixth in the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.80 and placed fifth in the 400 IM at 3:48.85.

In the prelims of the 200 IM, Maire lowered his personal best to a 1:46.27.

He also placed fourth in the 200 backstroke at 1:43.62, and as part of the 400 free relay, swam the third leg for a group that posted a new varsity record of 2:56.29.

In addition to sharing a school record with the 400 free relay, Maire also holds part of the program's 800 free relay (6:34.63) record and is the varsity record holder in the 400 IM (3:47.33).

Freshman David Colturi is making his NCAA Championship debut. He will compete on both springboards and the platform tower.

Like Maire, freshman Colturi has done his part this season to rewrite Purdue's record book. In fact, the diving portion of the Boilermakers' freshman record list belongs solely to the Sylvania, Ohio, native.

Colturi qualified for his first NCAA Championships appearance after winning the Region C Zone title on platform with a 12-dive score of 849.60 points, which was 72.60 points better than the runner-up score of Ohio State's Sean Moore.

Colturi's six-dive platform total in finals of 447.60 pointserased the old varsity record of 414.25 points set by Steven LoBue in 2005. He also fared well at Zone's on 1-meter, posting a third-place total of 672.95 points.

Colturi scored 62 team points at the Big Ten Championships, which tied him for tenth place among all competitors, and was the second-highest scoring diver behind Indiana's Landon Marzullo. He scored a personal best 423.15 points off 3-meter in finishing as the conference runner-up, and totaled a freshman record 357.55 points to place third off 1-meter.

Colturi won eight regular season competitions and was named Big Ten Diver of the Week on two occasions (Jan. 8 and Feb. 6, 2008).
